There is Hope
BUILDING A FUTURE FOR INDIA’S STREET ANIMALS
With India’s stray population numbering nearly 90 million against a shelter capacity less than 20% of that, it’s critical that we do even more. Your donation to our US-based, registered 501(c)3 nonprofit helps us get more animals the care they need.
Why do we need to expand the shelter and sanctuary?
- With 79.9 million dogs and cats, 8 million cows, and buffalos roaming in the high-traffic streets of India, the need is dire. Space limitations will soon impact our ability to rescue new dogs n cats who desperately need us, as more emergencies arise that require us to act quickly.
- We want to expand rescues to many more species. Many cows, bulls, and buffalos who are byproducts of the dairy industry life in urban areas feed on plastic. SAFI plays a critical role in providing long term care and compassion to many sick, injured, debilitated, and elderly.
Shelter and Sanctuary status
PHASE 1
PHASE 2
PHASE 3
Phase 1 started in March 2021. 1/4th acre rented space with compound wall, 25 kennels, 4 indoor rooms, 4 worker living quarters, and a container home. Space ran out quickly. We were in desperate need to have Clinic, treat the animals, and sterilize many dogs and cats in the shelter.
Phase 2 started in Feb 2022. Added 1/4th acre beside the current shelter. Added Clinic, sterilizations, recovery rooms, a larger sanctuary, puppy section wall, abandoned breed dog area, cat room, disease isolation areas, 4 bathrooms, and women worker living quarters.
By 2032, we plan to acquire land of our own and build a fully functional Clinic, along with sterilizations, sanctuary, education, training, and more. We will also expand the number of species that we rescue. Snakes, birds, monkeys etc.
